Gidem Privacy Policy
This is an English translation of the Korean Privacy Policy. If the two versions differ, the Korean version prevails.
Daisuyou (the "Company") operates "Gidem" (the "Service"), a voice messaging app for couples. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act of Korea, we have this policy to protect your personal information and to handle related concerns quickly.
1. What we collect and why
| Category | Items | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-up & sign-in | Account identifier from Kakao or Google, email (if provided), nickname (if provided) | Identifying you, keeping you signed in |
| Couple connection | Connection code, your partner's account identifier, connection/disconnection time | Providing a space just for the two of you |
| Voice messages | Recorded voice files, time sent, length, time listened, favorite/deleted marks | Delivering, keeping and replaying voice messages |
| Walkie mode | Call start time and length (the voice is not saved) | Showing "Walkie n min" on the calendar |
| Memory album | Photo copies (resized so the long side is 1920px), time taken, notes the two of you write under photos | Albums by date and shared notes |
| Anniversaries & trips | Anniversary names and dates, trip names and dates, packing items (who packed them; "My own packing" is visible only to you), plans (time, place, memo) | A shared calendar and trip planning |
| Wishlist | Titles of places to go and things to do, sub-items, the date done together and who checked it | A bucket list you share |
| Today's question | The question text attached to a voice message that answers it | So your partner knows which question you answered |
| Short caption | The first few words of a voice message as text (up to 18 characters). Made on the sender's phone; the voice is never sent to a speech-recognition company. Can be turned off in settings | So your partner can preview the start of a message in its bubble |
| Notifications | Device notification token (FCM) | New voice messages, walkie calls, anniversary and trip reminders |
| Payments | Product purchased, store order number, subscription period (the Company never receives card numbers or other payment details) | Providing paid features and sharing them with your partner |
| Ads (free users) | Advertising ID, device and app information (collected by Google AdMob) | Showing ads |
| Collected automatically | App error logs, access time | Keeping the Service stable |
- When you choose photos, the original files are not uploaded to our servers. The app uploads only a resized copy, with shooting information such as location (EXIF) removed from the copy. Only the time taken is stored separately. The location where a photo was taken stays on your phone and is never sent to our servers. (If we ever build a feature that uses location, we will first follow the legal procedures and ask for your separate consent.)
- Your voice is used only to deliver and keep messages, and is never analyzed for other purposes such as biometric identification.
- Your streak count, partner nickname, and display and notification settings are calculated and kept only on your phone.
- The microphone is used only while you are pressing the record or walkie button.
2. Retention and deletion
- When you delete your account: we guide you to export a backup first, and 3 months after deletion we erase your personal information (including your sign-in account and email) and the content you uploaded (photos, anniversaries, trips, etc.). If you also use our other app "Seoro Gidem" with the same sign-in account, the sign-in account (email) is erased once you have deleted your account there too (your Gidem records are still erased after 3 months). Voice messages you exchanged are also the other person's records, so they remain on their side while they still use the Service. Once both people have deleted their accounts and been removed, the voice messages are erased too.
- When a receiver deletes a voice message, it disappears from the receiver's screen immediately. Because it is also the sender's record, it stays on the server (so the sender keeps it even after changing phones) and is erased according to the account-deletion rule above.
- Photos deleted by the uploader are completely removed from the server after 30 days.
- Daily backups are deleted in turn after 90 days, so deleted records may remain inside backups for up to 90 days (used only for disaster recovery).
- Information we must keep by law (e-commerce contract and payment records: 5 years; consumer complaint and dispute records: 3 years; access logs: 3 months) is stored separately for those periods.
- If the Service ends completely: we will notify you at least 90 days in advance and let you export all your records for free during that period, then erase everything except information we must keep by law.
- Deletion method: electronic files are erased so they cannot be recovered.
3. Sharing with third parties
We do not provide your personal information to third parties. However, by the nature of the Service, the partner you are connected with can see the content you share (voice messages, photos, anniversaries, trips).
4. Processors and international transfers
| Recipient | What they do | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase Inc. | Accounts, database and server functions | Data stored in the Seoul, South Korea region (company based in the USA) |

- Recipients' privacy contacts: Supabase privacy@supabase.io / Cloudflare privacyquestions@cloudflare.com / Google https://support.google.com/policies (privacy inquiries) / Backblaze privacy@backblaze.com
- If you do not want your information transferred abroad, you may choose not to sign up, or delete your account. In that case you cannot use the Service.
5. Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suspension of processing of your personal information at any time. In the app's settings you can log out, disconnect from your partner, export your records, and delete your account. If you sign in again within 3 months of deleting your account, the deletion is cancelled. Send requests to the contact below and we will handle them without delay. Depending on where you live (for example the EU or UK), you may also have the right to data portability, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6. Automatic collection and personalized ads
- The app does not use cookies.
- For free users, Google AdMob may show personalized ads using your advertising ID and app usage information. Google collects and processes this; the Company does not store your advertising ID.
- To opt out: on your phone go to Settings → Google → Ads (or Privacy → Ads) → Delete advertising ID. In the EU and some other regions you can choose in the consent screen when you first open the app. Premium users see no ads.
7. Notifications
- Notifications for new voice messages, walkie calls, anniversaries and trips, and the once-a-day reminder on days without a message, are service notices. You can turn them off in the app or phone settings.
- We do not send promotional notifications. If we ever do, we will ask for your separate consent first.
8. Children under 14
The Service does not accept sign-ups from children under 14.
9. How we keep your information safe
- The server checks permissions so that only the two connected people can access each other's data (row-level security).
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS); walkie voice is encrypted between devices (WebRTC).
- Secret keys are kept only on the server and never put in the app.
- Sign-in information stored on your phone is encrypted with a key from the device's secure storage.
- Real-time connections (walkie signals, online status) are restricted by the server to the two of you.
- Entering connection codes is temporarily blocked after several wrong attempts to prevent guessing.
